Mt tape command and ctrl+c break

The article don’t discuss about breaking (ctrl+c) some commands like canceling during a tar backup, an erase operation. Or a power-off tape device during operation.
Do the user must use mt to positionate at an EOF after, do the tape drive ensure cancel operations and nothing to do after.
