I am a new sysadmin and RHEL 8 user. My system is configured to use DHCP. How can I switch from DHCP to a static IP address on RHEL 8 system? How do I setup a static TCP/IP address on my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 server using command line option?
Your article is reasonably helpful but why start off with the sensational misinformation:
‘’‘‘Network scripts deprecated in RHEL 8. You need to use NetworkManager via the nmcli command’’‘’
It’s not depreciated, and in fact your first solution shows the tried and true method of setting up a static IP by creating a network script file and activating it all without using nmcli. Your conclusion is also incorrect, as you demonstrated your do not have to use NetworkManager in EL8 any more than you did in EL7. Sorry if you felt it necessary to make false statements to increase readership.
